Property Taxes
Property taxes should remain affordable while protecting the quality of City services. I'll support responsible budgets, efficient government, and innovative ideas that reduce the tax burden on residents.
Planing Ahead for the Future
The city budget is not just about paying for today's needs it has to be about planning for the future. I will ask for a review of all emergency and contingency funds to make sure they are adequate to the city's future needs and are being managed and invested correctly.
Expand the Business Tax Base
Residential property taxes shouldn't be our only source of income. Cities like Markham and Vaughan can afford lower property taxes because they have a larger business and corporate tax base. We need to start encouraging companies to move into our city. We have one of the highest educated populations in the province, Highway 7 is a major tech corridor and we're in the middle of the GTA. Lets start to leverage these advantages and start talking to high tech/high wage companies and get them to move here.
Spending Transparency
Governments have a responsibility to earn the public's trust by being transparent with taxpayer dollars. I will advocate for every Richmond Hill resident to receive an annual property tax breakdown showing exactly how their individual tax dollars are invested in services like roads, parks, public safety, recreation, and libraries.
Senior’s Property Tax Stability Program
I will advocate for a provincial program that allows eligible seniors who own and live in their principal residence to freeze or defer municipal property tax increases until the home is sold or transferred. This would help seniors remain in their homes while protecting municipal finances over the long term.
Fairer Education Funding
Education is a provincial responsibility and should be funded through a fair, province-wide tax system rather than local property taxes. As Regional Councillor, I will advocate for the Province to modernize education funding while ensuring municipalities remain focused on delivering high-quality local services.
